Raga Shankarabharanam is the 29th Melakarta raga of Carnatic music and is one of the major foundational ragas of the tradition. It has a bright, balanced and expansive character and provides considerable scope for melodic elaboration. Its scale corresponds closely to the major scale in Western music.
